Reverend Sandra Harrell is a native of Los Angeles, California. She has been a member of Ward African Methodist Episcopal Church since 1979. During her time at Ward, she has been a Sunday school teacher and student. Reverend Harrell served as an usher for 27 years in addition to being a member and officer of the A. W. Jordan Missionary Society for over 25 years. She believes it was while she served God’s people in those ministries that the Lord prepared her for His service as an ordained minister. Her most notable attribute is that she has a heart for the marginalized.
In 1999, Reverend Harrell accepted the call as Exhorter. In that service, she presented workshops on Visioning, Sharing Expectations, and Preparing for Change to various ministries in God’s Kingdom, which included, but was not limited to: Ward AME, Bethel AME Berkley, and the Southern California Conference mid–year convocation. In 2010, God called her to the next level of ministry. She completed her studies with Southern California Board of Examiners and was ordained as a Local Deacon in 2008. In 2011, Reverend Harrell was ordained as a Local Elder. Currently, she teaches the noon bible study, supports bereaved members, and coordinates visitations for the sick and shut in.
Reverend Harrell knows there is nothing too difficult for God. She has been known to say, “God is not awesome he is more than.…” It was God who provided her with peace that was beyond her understanding, as she trusted him through breast cancer in 2008; Philippians 4:4-6 sustained her.
She has a passion for acquiring knowledge and considers herself as a lifelong learner. She has attended Trade Technical College, the University of Phoenix, completed the Antioch Bridge Program, and is currently enrolled in the Southern California School of Ministry. In addition, she has been certified through various management and leadership trainings and holds a Six Sigma Certification that confirms successful completion of a course that teaches a systemic approach to eliminating defects.
In Reverend Harrell’s secular experience, she retired as the National Manager of Customer Services from Xerox after 29 years of service. Her responsibilities included visioning, strategic planning, setting expectations, and building teams. She was also responsible for directing regional managers and frontline employees. She has established a second career in food service. Eating Healthy with Sandra provides wholesome meals for people.
Rev. Harrell feels blessed to have a son Steven Washington, two grandsons, and one great-grandson. To God be the glory for what He has done.
